Step 1: Survey the damage and curse a lot.

-Say a something like, “motherfucker cunt bastard in that stupid fucking Mercedes needs to pay the goddamn fuck attention on where shit is.” All the while noting that this can be kinda fixed.

Kinja'd!!!

Step 2: Fill in the scratches.

-Surprisingly scratch fix paint does a decent job.

Step 3: Wet-sand that motherfucker smooth with some 600 grit.

Step 4: Repeat steps 2 & 3 until all scratches are filled in and the paint is flattened.

Kinja'd!!!

Step 5: Go back over where you sanded using 1000 grit ultra fine sand paper.

-Be sure to keep wet sanding and feather out the areas to better blend in the damage.

Kinja'd!!!

Step 6: Polish the shit out of the helmet using your favorite polishing compound.

Kinja'd!!!

-Keep going until you can see yourself in the reflection.

Kinja'd!!!

Step 7:

Kinja'd!!!

-Follow up with more cursing because it’s still not perfect because black is a tough motherfucker to get right.

Nah, nothing structural was harmed, it just scuffed up the paint.

Wouldn’t it getting run over take away a lot of structural integrity? Shouldn’t you buy a new one?

It was punted by the car as everything else was ran over, no cracks, just scuffs and scratches.

saying it was ran over makes it sound pretty bad. was it just punted by the bumper or fender?

you really should get a new one. as soon as a helmet is even dropped from you holding it in your hand it can done for. you cant always see the cracks but the foam structure inside could be damaged and you have no idea

Foam is fine, shell is fine, the helmet is fine.

Man, people sure do overestimate the scale of a crash at an autocross. If you manage to crash hard enough to need a helmet, you’d probably get airbag deployement and be fine.

I like the rubber coating on the Icon helmets. And you can pretend you are Batman.

looks mostly like white paint that would have come off with a quick swipe of acetone. If they were scratches that needed touched up I would have just touched them up. 600 is far too aggressive, especially when hand compounding. 1500 is as far as I would go when hand polishing for a few reasons... A) Easier to polish B) removes less material.

Actual scratches, the flash made it look like paint. 600 was what I had at the time and with some being kinda deep, the 1000 wasn't cutting it down fast enough.
